economy is really the over arching thing. unemployment is over 8%. that is a reality not likely to change between now and november. it s something they see baked in. folks might watch the news, on any given night, but they are experiencing the economy day day-to-day. they are looking at the economy as a way to win the race that s how they do it. bret: convention a big deal? i think is it a big deal. it would be, it would be interesting to see how all the republicans come together. particularly, my friend rand paul and what message he will send to 5 million people on his father s e-mail list about what he thinks they should do in november. bret: we invited ron paul to come on the show. haven t heard back. this is the official invite. over the tv. bret: rand himself has the future. ron is older. i can t see any way to alienate a party of which he is a rising star by doing anything to enthusiastically
that just haven t worked for american people. what they will do is they will run the ads over and over again to say the economy is not where it should be. it s all obama s fault. that is the only argument they have. because they know their economic plan is not popular. well, governor romney and president obama earlier in week on the trail. he was at a fundraising event last night with some basketball stars. he used a basketball analogy, the president did, about the state of the race and he said, we are in the fourth quarter, up by a few points but the other side is coming strong. they play a little dirty. we have a few folks on our team in foul trouble. we have a couple of injuries and i believe that they have got one last run in them. i d say there is seven minutes to go in the game. well, he is talking about the state of the race. we have new fox polls out tonight. of likely voters. there you see, president job approval rating. the job performance, approval 46%. disapprove, 50%
had huge ma juror any both house of majority in both houses of the economy and the economy is worse. recession is worse, unemployment is the worse since the great depression. bret: i guess looking at these polls and again these are likely powers, the first, this is first poll we have done with likely voters. this is a better look if the election were held today. you look at the polls and what do you see? i think that is good for the republicans. it bodes well. romney campaign of negative ads unlike any seen in recent history. he is now in a dead heat. he has been husbanding his resources. he hasn t spent as much as obama. he is husbanding it for the last couple of months of the campaign. as soon as he is nominated it frees up $160 million. these dayous never know with the huge deficits.
