Iron Pig Optimistic Over New Food License, Faces Possible Fines Over Temporary Restraining Order

9 & 10 News February 8, 2021 The battle between the Iron Pig Smokehouse and the state continues as a contempt hearing was held on Monday. The issue at hand was the restaurant violating the temporary restraining order put on them on Feb. 4. Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Clinton Canady presided and will decide if the Iron Pig should face any punishment or fines. During the hearing, the attorney representing the Iron Pig, David Delaney told Judge Canady the restaurant was hurt financially when they weren’t open for Super Bowl Sunday, and he should consider that when determining possible fines. The opposing side argued other restaurants were hurting while The Iron Pig disobeyed orders put out by the health department.

Iron Pig Smokehouse Issued Temporary Restraining Order

9 & 10 News January 29, 2021 The Iron Pig Smokehouse in Gaylord has been issued a temporary restraining order by the 30th Circuit Court in Ingham County. Judge Clinton Canady says in the decision the restaurant has continued to violate the Michigan Food Law, creating an imminent threat to the public. It goes further to say, without the restraining order, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the public would suffer irreparable harm. The decision orders the Iron Pig to cease operations including selling, distributing and advertising food or beverages. The next scheduled court date is on Thursday, Feb. 4th via Zoom.
