Tropical Storm Elsa could bring heavy wind, rain to Volusia, Flagler

Tropical Storm Elsa continued to move west northwest Sunday and, if it keeps that track, it could bring tropical storm winds to Volusia and Flagler counties, said meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Elsa has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, according to an advisory issued at 5 p.m. Sunday from the National Hurricane Center. On the forecast track, Elsa was expected to move near or over eastern Cuba Sunday evening, and approach central Cuba Sunday night and early Monday. Elsa is expected to move across central and western Cuba and head toward the Florida Straits on Monday and pass near the Florida Keys early Tuesday. Elsa is then forecast to move near or over portions of the west coast of Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Some Tūrangi residents are living in a construction zone as 94 trees are removed as part of a project to replace crumbling kerb and channelling. Taupō District Council was awarded $6.5 million from the Government s shovel-ready fund and work on the Tūrangi Street Revitalisation Project began in February. With the deciduous trees a blaze of autumn colour, some residents expressed regret that a number of the trees being removed are in their prime. Others have acknowledged while the trees are beautiful, they were planted in an unsuitable spot.
