Ragin Cajuns senior guard Russell named Sun Belt Player of the Week | 103 7 The Game | Acadiana s Sports Station

University of Louisiana senior guard Cedric Russell helped lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to a pair of one-possession victories last weekend. For his stellar play, Russell has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Russell averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in last weekend’s two-game series at Texas State, beginning on Friday with a 21-point performance with three 3-pointers in a 62-60 victory.   Russell wrapped up the week with his seventh 20-point game of the season, as he scored 24 points with a season-high six three-pointers in a 74-73 thriller on Saturday. Russell went 9-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-9 from long range in Saturday’s finale.

How It Happened Texas State comes out of the gates fast with a 7-0 lead thanks to an early steal from Kennedy Taylor that turned into an open three. The Cajuns fought back after that fast start, but could only cut the lead to five after one quarter of play thanks to a late jumper by Skyler Goodwin

Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Release Softball Schedule | 103 7 The Game | Acadiana s Sports Station

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns softball program unveiled their schedule for the upcoming 2021 season on Monday, highlighted by matchups with nationally ranked foes Baylor, Louisiana State, Oklahoma State and Texas at Lamson Park, plus a weekend series at Alabama. Should disruptions or modifications to the 2021 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments. Additionally, the department will communicate specific entry and attendance protocols for home games ahead of the season opener. Armed with five seniors utilizing an extra year of eligibility granted by last season’s COVID-19 stoppage of play, along with several key Division I transfers, Louisiana (18-6, 2-1 SBC in 2020) officially kicks off the 2021 season Feb. 12-13 welcoming Baylor and Missouri State to Lamson Park for the 35th Annual Louisiana Classics.

Ragin Cajuns coach Marlin tests positive for COVID-19 | 103 7 The Game | Acadiana s Sports Station

Bob Marlin has been sidelined by COVID-19. The University of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will be without their head coach for this weekend’s Sun Belt Conferenceseries against the Texas State Bobcats.  The UL Athletic Department released a statement on Monday stating the following: “On the morning of Sunday, Jan. 24, while experiencing some mild symptoms, Coach Marlin tested positive during routine antigen testing. A subsequent PCR test administered Sunday afternoon yielded a positive result on the morning of Monday, Jan. 25.” The Ragin’ Cajuns (11-4, 5-3 SBC) will continue day-to-day operations as scheduled, with the coaching staff dividing Marlin’s responsibilities, and prepare for this weekend’s two-game SBC series at Texas State.

Photo courtesy of Clint Domingue The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball team suffered their first road loss of the season on Friday night. UT Arlington defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns 91-86 in the first of the two-game series. Louisiana is now 8-4 for the season. How It Happened: Ragin’ Cajuns forward Theo Akwuba opened up the game with the first field goal. The game remained back-and-forth as the UT Arlington Mavericks grabbed their first lead with 17:38 left in the first half. The Mavericks led 8-5 after a 3-pointer by Shahada Wells.
