New Zealand will force banks to reveal the impact their investments have on climate change under world-first legislation intended to make the financial sector s environmental record transparent, officials said.
Commerce Minister David Clark said the law would make climate reporting mandatory for banks, insurance companies and investment firms. Becoming the first country in the world to introduce a law like this means we have an opportunity to show real leadership and pave the way for other countries to make climate-related disclosures mandatory, he said.

The most pressing concerns of the century such as climate change, cleaner energy and sustainable development were discussed during the 51st edition of the signature GECF Gas Lecture Series, entitled ‘The Russian Federation’s climate policy in the energy sector’.
Speaking virtually during the webinar Alexey Kulapin, the Director General of the Russian Energy Agency which is a specialised body of the Ministry of Energy of Russian Federation, elaborated on the national climate policy in the energy sector.
Russia has a multi-pronged strategy to confront climate change, by further developing its human capital, natural gas, hydrogen, and renewable assets.

UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia to Host Virtual Country Conference

The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia, in collaboration with the GEF Small Grants Programme UNDP, will host its 4th Country Conference from the 15th to 17th February 2021. The theme of this year’s Conference is “Visioning Sustainable Futures – Confronting the Threats of Climate Change and Climate Variability”, and it is expected to provide an avenue to share existing research and disseminate information on Saint Lucia. The conference will take place using a virtual Zoom platform, anchored at the Conference Room, Floor 5, Finance Centre, Pointe Seraphine, Castries, Saint Lucia.
