Countries on the front lines of climate change should have their debt forgiven, the prime minister of Barbados told POLITICO magazine as she continues to try to push an issue long considered taboo into mainstream discourse.

About a thousand climate activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) were arrested on Saturday afternoon on the Utrechtsebaan (A12) in The Hague, the police reported. They blocked the road from 1 p.m. 45 minutes later, the police began removing the demonstrators. One by one, the activists were escorted to a detention van.
The 198 countries at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai have reached an agreement on phasing out the use of fossil fuels. The global stocktake text was adopted with no objections. Transitioning away from fossil fuels was one of the European Union’s spearheads ahead of the summit. Dutch Climate Minister Rob Jetten called it an "important moment for the climate."
