LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol is under blue alert status after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised the alert level of Mayon Volcano in Albay from one to two (increasing unrest) on Monday, June 5.

In an advisory, Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal said all classes in the elementary and high school levels, whether modular or face-to-face, and in both public and private institutions, as well as government work, are suspended. "The City Disaster and Climate Change Resilience Council declared the suspension due to the anticipated heavy traffic which might be caused by a large public rally scheduled on May 6, 2022," he said. Rosal added, however, that the suspension will not apply to those who are in the Incident Management Team, maintenance of peace and order, disaster risk management, health and sanitation, and performance of vital services. Among the areas covered by suspension were Legazpi City, Ligao City, Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan, Libon and Sto. Domingo, all in Albay province. In Masbate province, the towns of Mobo and Cataingan also canceled classes. The same directive was issued in the towns of Barcelona, Bulusan, Gubat, Castilla, Casiguran, Donsol, Magallanes, Sta. Magdalena and Pilar, all in Sorsogon province.
