limbo. the president is feeling an urgency to move things forward. reporter: democrats are in a standoff on how to scale back the social safety net and climate change proposal. he s going to continue to work with democratic leadership about having the kinds of meetings and engagements that will help move this across the finish line. reporter: biden and house speaker pelosi believe it s time to wrap up negotiations ahead of an end of the month deadline to pass this bill and the infrastructure plan. tomorrow he will host two different meetings with house members here at the white house. one with moderates and one with progressive members. reporter: currently biden s plan would make child care more affordable, provide universal pre-k, expand paid family leave and address the climate crisis. but as moderate senators have drawn red lines on some of those provisions, other democrats aren t hiding their frustration. what i do think is simply unfair is that two members of the sen
having reconciliation if not ready to be voted upon, at least close, at least some things agreed. given us a sense what s going to happen today. how is this going to play out over the next couple of days? talking about deeply cynical, i m deeply cynical about the infrastructure situation. i ve covered congress long enough not to be optimistic. things are right in your face and about to happen. so this is the moderates, let s start with them. they set this artificial deadline of an end-of-september vote on this bipartisan traditional infrastructure bill. i think what they didn t they completely underestimated is the will and determination to stick to the deal, which was to also vote on this multi-trillion social safety net and climate change proposal. progressives are standing strong.
grocery store. and the reason that i wrote this is because i talked to democrat being senators and they said even if we believe that inflation was as bad as some folksing it is, we d still want to do the climate change proposal, still want to do the medicare expansion, all the things in that reconciliation bill and as well as the infrastructure bill. and senator mccaskill is correct in that most of the vast majority of folks in the democratic party in congress never have to worry about re-election, but it is that small set who do have to worry about re-election who are paying a lot of attention to inflation numbers and who look at it and say if inflation continues through the next midterm, we ll be gone and the democratic majority will be gone. for joe biden who is looking at legacy and for senators and house members who don t have toer would about the general elections, they care a lot more about trying to get the programs in place. joe biden understands this
