After a tough year we’re delighted to be back doing what we do best. The Clifton Arms has had a makeover thanks to prize money from a pub awards last year The focus at The Clifton Arms is always on the community, so when it came to carrying out the refurbishment, they made sure that the jobs went to local tradespeople who’ve been out of work or on furlough during the last year. Throughout lockdown last year and into 2021, the team have continued to make food available to those most in need, including free Easter lunches and fruit boxes, and more recently getting milk to vulnerable children and people that need shelter.

The Clifton Arms in Blackburn is one of just 10 pubs from across the country to reach the finals of the awards, which have been organised by PubAid and the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group. The Clifton Arms Recognised for its community support during lockdown, the team at the Clifton Arms, on Grimshaw Park, stayed connected to their community by sending out boxes of essential groceries to vulnerable locals and provided hot meals and clothing for the homeless.

The reason you might have spotted huge white words painted around Blackburn with Darwen this week People in Blackburn may be forgiven for thinking they ve been seeing things recently but they can rest assured their eyes are not playing tricks on them. For this week, huge white letters have been painted at various locations across the borough, as part of a new art installation for the National Festival of Making. The large words and poetry - celebrating spring, post-Covid hopes, and reflection - have formed the Of Earth And Sky – Open Air Poetry Experience and will be visible across Blackburn with Darwen from today until July 15. 

Pavement licence extension for East Lancashire's pubs and cafes will aid recovery of hospitality industry

Gary Perkins who runs Spitfire, Bank, Taps and the Vault in Darwen and the Arden Inn, Accrington Pavement licences for venues with little or no outdoor dining spaces are being extended for a further 12 months in order to support the recovery of the hospitality industry. On Monday, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick confirmed he will extend provisions for temporary pavement licences to help high streets re-open safely once lockdown restrictions are lifted. Details of the announcement, which is still subject to parliamentary approval, were included in a letter sent by Mr Jenrick to local councils urging them to do ‘everything possible’ to get ready for the reopening of the country’s high streets.
