For Dr. Mike Taylor, Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital chief medical officer and intensive care physician, said receiving one of the first novel coronavirus vaccines in Northeast Ohio was about setting an example of its safety to the public.
Taylor, who works primarily out of Cleveland Clinic s Fairview and Avon hospitals intensive care units, was among about 300 other clinic employees Dec. 18 who received the vaccine at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus in Cleveland.
Cleveland Clinic began vaccinating frontline caregivers Dec. 16, according to a news release from the medical center.

As of Dec. 22, about 1,000 caregivers have been vaccinated.
Taylor said he has been taking care of COVID-19 patients since March, which has taken a toll on both himself and the hospital system.
