The city of Lafayette will hold its annual Stars and Stripes 4th of July Celebration on Sunday, July 4. This year s celebration will be presented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association.
One new addition to the festivities this year will be a parade at 11 a.m., beginning at 16th and Alabama streets and continuing on to Main Street. The parade will proceed to Wallace Avenue before turning onto Park Avenue, then concluding in Columbian Park.
Children are being encouraged to join in on the festivities more than ever before with the return of the box parade. Children will put on display their own walking floats made out of cardboard boxes. Prizes will be given to the top five box float entries that best portray this year s theme: Honoring Our Local Heroes.
