Opposition grows against Middlewich transit site plans

Old barns on the proposed transit site RESIDENTS have objected to plans to build traveller pitches at Cledford Hall in Middlewich. The bid, which would provide temporary accommodation for ten pitches and an amenity block, has been brought forward by Cheshire East Council, and could open up in January next year. However, Middlewich residents and Moston Parish Council have voiced their opposition to the £2.2 million scheme citing concerns over its location and neighbouring industrial sites. “While fully accepting the requirement for a council-owned transit site within Cheshire East, this is the wrong location and could be counter productive to the established integration between the large travelling community who have settled in Middlewich and Moston and the non-travelling population,” the parish council’s letter of objection said.

Planning bid due for Middlewich traveller transit site

Cledford Hall as it stood before demolition A PLANNING application for a new traveller transit site in Middlewich will be submitted next month, councillors have been told. Cheshire East Council needs to open a transit site for temporary stops for gipsies and travellers, giving the opportunity to access health and education services. It will also mean police have powers to direct travellers to the designated site from unauthorised encampments. CEC wants this to be opened in Cledford Lane at the former Cledford Hall – but Middlewich councillors have a firm belief it is the wrong site. Cllr Jonathan Parry told last week s town council meeting: Yes there needs to be one in Cheshire East, that is a demand, but it has got to be put at the right place and Cledford Lane is not the right place.
