KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine Dogs have new commands to obey, property owners need licenses for short-term housing rentals, and Dock Square will now become a mix of commercial and residential dwellings, all because voters had their say Tuesday.
Kennebunkport voters also settled a contested race for one seat on the RSU 21 School Board and awarded new terms to incumbent selectmen and trustees who were uncontested in their reelection bids.
Dogs on the beach
Question 1 asked voters to amend the Animal Control Ordinance to adjust times when dogs will be allowed on Goose Rocks Beach, Colony Beach, and Cleaves Cove, and when they must be on leashes. The amendment, which voters passed 696-489, according to unofficial results released by Town Clerk Jamie Mitchell, is an effort to protect the piping plovers, an endangered species whose habitat is there.
