DES MOINES, Iowa – Clear Lake received multiple awards at the 2021 Iowa Tourism Conference.
Awards in 13 categories, divided into metro and rural distinctions, were announced at a ceremony Wednesday in Des Moines.
Clear Lake was honored as “Outstanding Community.” The Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce got an award for “Outstanding Niche Market Initiative” for its “Be A Tourist in Your Own Backyard” Campaign. Larch Pine Inn in Clear Lake was also named “Outstanding Lodging Property.”

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - What was once the site of a pre-stressed concrete facility is transforming into a commercial hotspot.
Progress is moving along in the Courtway Park development on the northeast corner of I-35 and Iowa Highway 122. While the combined Marriott Hotel and Event Center is under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of the summer, as well as an Old Dominion facility slated to be built on the north side of the site, a new retail development called Starboard Square is taking shape next to the Marriott.

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Two North Iowa representatives held a virtual forum for the public to update on key issues being addressed this session in Des Moines.
State Representative Shannon Latham and State Senator Amanda Ragan took part in a Zoom forum hosted by the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce on Friday. One of the issues that was discussed was expanding and attracting workforce, with one of those goals is to expand high-speed broadband internet access, which is one of Governor Kim Reynolds key priorities to accomplish this legislative session. Both Latham and Ragan feel it s critical to have to grow Iowa s workforce, especially in rural communities.

The NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center hosted Venture School Launch Day on Thursday, March 25, 2021. The spring 2021 cohort of nine teams competed in person after attending classes virtually for 8 weeks of training, doing customer discovery and developing their business model alongside local entrepreneur mentors. A panel of judges (Stacy Doughan, Clear Lake Chamber; Jayson Ryner, ReEnvision Ag; and Joyce Martin, Pappajohn Center Marketing & Communications Coordinator) selected First and Second Place winners, and two Honorable Mention awards.
First Place – Nathaniel Julseth, Nate’s Powder Coating, Northwood. Awarded $2500 prize.
Second Place – Catarino Martinez, Casa Mezcal, Clear Lake. Awarded $1500 prize.
