  A statement issued by the Director, Administration and Supplies, Small Town and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Eigbe A. Endurance, said Obaseki would launch the campaign at the Government House, Benin City.   Eigbe said the state government has continued to provide more schools, markets, health centres in rural communities with clean water and toilet facilities that would make the environment safe for residents across the state.   The Obaseki-led administration collaborated with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in deepening the impact of projects executed through the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme to ensure sustainable sanitation in the state.

It also said an estimated 46 million out of 200 million citizens still find pleasure in open defecation, describing the trend as hazardous to their wellbeing. x Minister of Water Resources Suleiman Adamu stated this in Ado Ekiti during the flag-off of the National Youth Volunteer Programme for Hand Washing and Clean Nigeria Campaign. Adamu, represented by an official of the ministry, Mrs. Damilola Akomolafe, described the programme as one of the interventions of the Federal Government to halt the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on citizens.
