US first: Tacoma Power's electrofuels tariff goes into effect from April

st April, making Tacoma, Washington the perfect place for the production of green hydrogen. The new, lower cost tariff – the nation’s first pilot rate – is designed for industrial producers of electrofuels, such as hydrolysers that produce green energy, to take Tacoma Power’s carbon-free electricity and produce hydrogen or hydrogen-rich compounds that can be used to store electricity for later use. With the approval of this rate in December 2020, Tacoma Power became the first consumer-owned utility in the nation to offer a rate specifically designed to capture the operational and social benefit of this technology. Under the rate schedule terms, Tacoma Power said it has the option to curtail electricity consumption during times of high market prices or other electrical system need, making it much more affordable to provide power to all customers.

State Workers' Switch To Telework During Pandemic Brings 'Seismic' Drop in CO2 Emissions

Commercial Street is nearly devoid of pedestrians and traffic on March 25, 2020 in Portland, Maine, just before a stay-at-home order went into place because of the pandemic. (Robert F. Bukaty/AP) Maine government workers have reduced their car travel by 1 million vehicle miles a week since the start of the pandemic, thanks to the rapid, wholesale adoption of telework policies. The preliminary data are opening an unexpected window on the future of telecommuting and its potential to deliver substantial reductions in global warming pollution. Last year, before anyone heard of COVID-19, Maine’s Legislature authorized a comprehensive analysis of telework’s potential costs and benefits for state government and its employees. But as the research project got underway, the pandemic hit, and by April of this year some 85 percent of the state government’s workforce excepting public safety positions was suddenly working from home.

doesn t do it. and i m very put off when people say let s go back and freeze to the level two years ago. don t tell me you re going to freeze to a level. that usually is a very inefficient way of doing it. tell me what you re going to cut. and nobody up there yet is being very, very candid about what they are going to cut to fix this problem. well, apparently, the president is going to be specific about what he does not want cut. he s going to talk about high speed rail, scientific research, clean energy programs, college grants. effectively what he s doing is he s he s defying the republicans. i m putting a wall around this stuff. cut whatever you want but don t touch that stuff. meanwhile, the republicans are a number of them are talking about let s take a look at social security, medicare and let s talk a little bit about cutting the pentagon. i d like to see colin powell there, though. we have not seen a lot of him. one of the most interesting things he said in that intervi
