A welcome sign of COVID’s departure, litter crews return to clean highways

Drivers have complained about it and even state legislators asked as recent as last week when crews would resume cleaning the litter thats accumulated along state highways.
Starting Monday, two programs returned that help state Department of Transportation road crews pick-up the litter left by others from highways, said Dianne Guttierez-Scaccetti, state transportation commissioner.
A cooperative program with the state Department of Corrections, where inmates collect road side trash and debris and the Adopt-A-Highway programs, resumed May 3. Lawmakers understood that it was suspended during the coronavirus pandemic, but pressed DOT officials for its return.
