NORWOOD – It may be some time before Heritage Baptist Church can return to its home on Washington Street in Norwood Center.
The church is currently renting space in Foxborough.
The church’s basement was flooded in the June 28 storms that dumped 4 inches of rain in less than an hour. The resulting damage (estimated at $300,000, according to Town Manager Tony Mazzucco) led to a disconnection of the gas service.
The problem? The church needs to connect to a high-pressure gas line on Washington Street, but the church has a slab foundation, and current regulations will not allow gas lines under a slab. Instead, National Grid recommended installing meters (with bollards) at the front of the church.
