for now, she s enjoying some simple home comforts, but worried about the winter ahead. nothing s going to change. nothing. they ve not done anything in preparation. there s nothing more that i can do if the electricity or the heating goes off. so back to square one again. back to the clay cooker and the thai cooker. be resourceful. this area is remote and vulnerable, prone to bad weather. but people pull together. we all look out for each other. you won t find a better community than what we have in samoa. everybody looks out for everybody. everybody knows everybody, and it s one of the best places in the world to live. but some frustration remains. you could try and find out and you were put back, your pole will be back on in 4 hours. it never was. it was never updated. you know, a little bit more communication from somebody that could have just come and said, look, we re trying our best. we ll get it back on as soon as we can. we never got nothing. in total, more than 70,000 homes in
has frozen over. the power went off last week and still the village waits to be reconnected. has anyone told you when you might be able to expect to get power back on? i heard a rumour in the local shop, could be friday. how does that make you feel? it is a long time to go, isn t it? we ve got the whole week. there s no lights, heating, no access to the internet. they are cut off, and for some, there is only one way to feed yourself. it s been absolutely freezing, trying to walk around the house, keep your body heat up. going out for walks, trying to cook outside. clay cooker. it s really a struggle. because i ve only got wood and bits of fire. and i ve had to chop a cabinet up this morning. they don t know when they will be back online, it s tough to play in the snow because there is no way for many to get warm afterwards. in alston too, some people at this reception centre are still without power, happy to be eating something warm. it s been really awful, being all alone in the cold.
