SAN DIEGO
A new audit says San Diego needs to sharply revamp its efforts to boost the number of city contracts awarded to minorities and women, a key issue in San Diego leaders’ recent push for greater social equity and racial justice.
There’s a lot at stake because San Diego awards more than $500 million in contracts in a typical year, for everything from major road projects to staples.
The city’s new Democrat-dominated City Council is scheduled to discuss the audit in January, including a recommendation that San Diego create policies giving explicit preference to women and minorities for contracts.
