GPS Seniors Inducted Into Cum Laude Thursday, May 6, 2021
As the GPS Class of 2021 completes its senior year, it first recognizes and installs its newest members into Cum Laude Society. Ten seniors join the company of their high-achieving sisters before them as their chosen faculty members pay tribute to their time at GPS. Graduating classmates and family members joined the inductees in the Frierson Theatre while underclassmen, teachers, and friends joined virtually via livestream.
English Department Chair Katy Berotti welcomed those in attendance and explained the importance of the day. “The national Cum Laude Society was organized over a century ago to recognize extraordinary scholastic achievement in secondary schools. Each girl we induct today earned this honor by excelling in rigorous GPS courses,” she said.

Across the country, approximately eight million students participate in high school athletics. Of that group, just six percent pursue their sport in college. At GPS, senior athletes commit to playing college sports at almost three times the national average.
National Signing Day is the culmination of years’ worth of grit, dedication, and determination for student-athletes who have chosen to pursue their athletic endeavors in college. In front of family, classmates, teachers, and coaches (albeit virtually for most), three GPS seniors confirmed their intentions to participate in sports at the collegiate level.

During the Wednesday morning assembly, the 2021 GPS May Queen and Court was voted on by the student body after being nominated by the senior class on Monday. Addie Youmans will wear the flower crown as May Queen, with Erin Marshall as her Maid of Honor. Completing the court are Crown Bearer Astha Sinha, Scepter Bearer Lily DuPlooy, and Train Bearers Emma Dexter and Shreena Patel.
