Argentina operators to reimburse clients for January price hikes Tuesday 23 February 2021 | 14:20 CET | News Movistar Argentina (Telefonica) and Claro (America Movil) have informed telecommunications regulator Enacom that they intend to reimburse customers for unauthorised price increases imposed in January and February. Claro Argentina and Movistar Argentina confirmed to Enacom that they will reimburse their clients in March, via credit notes, for the extra amount billed, confirmed the watchdog s director Carlos Ambrosini in a tweet, adding that those who do not comply with the agreed refund will be fined .

Movistar renews legal challenge against Chile 5G auction Thursday 4 February 2021 | 15:17 CET | News Movistar Chile (Telefonica) has made a fresh attempt to halt the imminent tender of 5G-ready frequencies by launching a legal challenge before the country s antitrust court (TDLC - Tribunal de Defensa de la Libre Competencia). According to a report in business daily Diario Financiero, the operator is opposing the tender in two of the bands â AWS and 3.5GHz â on the basis of calculation errors on the part of the authorities that could lead to its rivals Entel and Claro (America Movil) exceeding maximum spectrum caps.

Claro Colombia declared dominant operator in mobile market Monday 1 February 2021 | 11:13 CET | News Colombia s Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) has declared Claro (America Movil) to be a dominant player in the local mobile services market, resulting in increased monitoring for the operator, which has around 32 million customers, almost as many its four MNO competitors combined. According to a report in business daily Portafolio, the CRC has refrained from imposing any specific penalties or conditions at this stage and given Claro ten days from notification of the decision to lodge an appeal.

Peruvian telecom watchdog upholds PEN 4 mln in fines Monday 21 December 2020 | 12:11 CET | News Peruvian telecommunications services watchdog Osiptel has dismissed appeals lodged by the operators Claro (America Movil), Entel Peru and Bitel against a total of PEN 3.9 million fines imposed for a series of regulatory breaches. Entel was fined a total of PEN 1.57 million for a number of customer care breaches, while Claro was fined a total of PEN 1.35 million for issuing SIM cards in unauthorised locations such as public thoroughfares and for breaching biometric system provisions, among other infringements.
