Kano ex-Reps member, Abdullahi Maikano Rabiu dies of COVID-19

The veterinary doctor died at Kwanar Dawakin Isolation centre, in Kano.
Alhaji Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, a close family friend, announced the death on behalf of the family, disclosing that arrangement is being put in place for the burial of the late former legislator.
 Rabiu was Assistant General Manager, defunct Bank of the North, former Chairman, Kano Micro Finance Bank and House of Representatives member in the second Republic.
It was further disclosed that he was elected into the Senate in 1998 under UNPP during the Sani Abacha regime.
Until his death, he was the Dalatun Bichi and District Head of Dawakin Tofa.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday approved N35 billion for the building of power station by the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA), in Akamkpa, Cross River State.
The Council in the 32nd edition of its weekly meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari also approved the take-off of 20 private universities across the country as well as N1.3 billion for the procurement of surveillance equipment for Abuja and Lagos airports.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, who made these disclosures while speaking to newsmen after the FEC meeting, statedcthat the power contract awarded to Messers Mutual Commitment Nigeria Limited, the power station is to power the Calabar Export Processing Zone.

Residents of Eke community, in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Thursday took to the streets in their numbers, protesting the commissioning of a road project yet to be completed in the area.
DAILY POST learnt that the road, which is an ecological fund project under the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, was commissioned by a Federal Government delegation on Thursday.
But the benefiting community said during their protest that the over N429m project- Enugu-Eke-Ogui Uno-Eke Eke-Obodo Amankwo-Oma Eke road, is yet to be constructed.
Members of the community displayed placards with inscriptions such as “Corruption Unlimited; ICPC where are you; EFCC where are you; Fraud Unlimited; Public Procurement Act Crucified,” among others.

Briefing journalists at the State House on the outcome of the meeting, Mr Adamu said the approved universities will get their provisional licences from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
He gave the names of the approved institutions as Topfaith University, Mkpatak, Akwa Ibom State; Thomas Adewumi University, Oko-Irese, Kwara State; Maranathan University, Mgbidi, Imo State; Ave Maria University, Piyanko, Nasarawa State, and Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State.
