Alumni and locals came together Nov. 11 to clear out half of the Pleasant Grove School in Alcolu in efforts to turn it into a community center. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places Sept. 24, becoming the ninth location in Clarendon County to be added to the list.

If approved, Pleasant Grove School, just North of Manning in Alcolu, could be listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places within the next two to three months. Local volunteers will also have the opportunity in November to help clean up the building and area around it.
