Martinsville s first Black woman police officer is retiring after 32 years of service. Friends, family and coworkers gathered in the cafeteria at Martinsville High School Monday evening to celebrate the retirement of one of Martinsville s most beloved police officers, Coretha Gravely.
After looking for a new administrator for more than a year, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors appointed Stuart J. Turille Jr. to the position, effective April 1.
Vaden Hunt will continue to serve as interim Pittsylvania County administrator until a permanent replacement is hired. Hunt has also served as county attorney since 2011.
Pittsylvania County made national and local news this year with the story of Sharswood, a former tobacco plantation about 10 miles from Gretna. A descendant of one of the plantation’s
