daughter like this. she s a face of hope, a face of change, of coming together as a country to stop the violence and hatred. reporter: john role also leaves a memorable legacy. role, a father and grandfather was a dedicated member of his church. he had just left mass when he stopped by the congresswoman s event to say hello. moments later, he was gunned down. sheriff clarence dupnik says the judge was one of his dearest friends. you d never suspect this guy was a judge. nothing pretentious about this ordinary individual who was anything but ordinary. reporter: gabriel zimmerman was 30, an aide to the congresswoman. he was recently engaged. his friends still in disbelief. it s hard to bear losing him. it is. 79-year-old phyllis schneck was a retiree who spent winters
more grim words about the congresswoman by the man charged with shooting her. pima county sheriff s chief rick castigar told the press this morning that a fourth note had been found in jared loughner s home, besides the ones that read, i planned ahead, my assassination, and just giffords. the fourth one simply read, die bitch. clarence dupnik also revealed that on the morning of the attack, loughner s father saw him take a black bag out of a car trunk. when the elder loughner tried to confront his son, loughner mumbled something and began to run. the elder loughner got into his truck and chased his son into the desert. he obviously did not stop him. within hours, investigators also say loughner emptied 31 shells, that s how many were recovered from the scene of saturday s shooting. loughner expended the 31 magazine plus one in the gun s chamber, and investigators say at least 20 bullets struck

pima county sheriff said this about the tragedy. when you look at unbalanced people, how they are how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government, the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. and unfortunately, arizona, i think, has become sort of the capital. we have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry. those comments sparked strong responses from both ends of the political spectrum, some condemning the sheriff and others defending him. clarence dupnik joins us now from tucson. thank you for joining us. my pleasure. sheriff, it goes without saying, conservative radio
lucky. among them, federal judge john m. roll who was about to mark his 20th year on the bench. sheriff clarence dupnik said roll had just ahended mass nearby and stopped by to say hello to giffords. the sheriff said it appeared the gunman was targeting giffords and that the judge was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. 12 people, including the congresswoman, were wounded in that attack. bystanders tackled the alleged gunman. he s been identified as 22-year-old jared lee loughner. a 9 millimeter handgun was recovered. a second individual is now being sought as a person of interest. listen to this. we re not convinced that he acted alone. there s some reason to believe that he came to this location with another individual. and there s reason to believe that the other individual may some way be involved.
