Alarm at rise in breaches of domestic abuse orders February 11, 2021 SHOCK has been expressed over a spike in Clare in breachers of domestic violence orders, over the course of 2020, as well as an increase of reported incidents of abuse within the home. Figures presented to Clare’s Joint Policing Committee (JPC) this week show that there were 89 breaches of barring, safety and protection orders last year. This compares with 72 such incidents in 2019, and represents a rise of 24%. Commenting on the figures, Deputy Violet Anne Wynne, a member of the JPC, said the pandemic seemed to have created a situation whereby some people felt they had the opportunity to breach orders issued by the courts. “We need to increase the visibility of Gardaí in order to deter these people,” the Sinn Féin representative said. “The marked increase in crimes connected to domestic violence is quite shocking and in contrast to the decrease seen in other kinds of offences. New Domestic Abuse Resource Pack launched

A resource pack for professionals working with children and families, ahead of what is expected to be a particularly difficult Christmas for people affected by domestic abuse has been developed by a network of agencies including An Garda Síochána, Tusla, community support services, legal services and health service providers in County Clare. The Domestic Abuse Resource Pack has been undertaken jointly by The Clare Local Area Network Opposing Violence Against Women (CLAN) and Tusla Clare Prevention Partnership and Family Support (Clare PPFS) and is supported by Safe Ireland. The network group decided to be proactive ahead of what is expected to be a very difficult time for many families, by launching an interactive, one-stop-shop, of relevant information and supports for those subjected to domestic abuse, their families and the professionals on the frontline supporting them.

CBS Ennistymon Christmas Variety Show online

Proceeds from the event will go to Clare Haven Services CBS Ennistymon will present a Live Streamed Variety Show on Wednesday 16th December at 7.30pm with proceeds going to Clare Haven Services. This will be live streamed from the CBS Ennistymon Facebook page (@cbsennistymon). A school spokesperson said: “Usually at this time of year the school would produce a live variety show in Ennistymon Community Centre with over 300 friends and family members coming to see the students perform. This year, in an effort to keep the festive school spirit thriving, we have moved our show into the online world. While it is different, it will be no less special for our school community.”
