RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Tuesday that he supports the investigation by the Attorney General’s Office for vote buying and illegal use of resources against the two leading opposition candidates in the polls to govern the northern state of Nuevo Leon.

“Yesterday the spokespersons of conservatism were tearing their hair out because the Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation against two candidates for the Government of Nuevo Leon. I support that decision of the Prosecutor’s Office. Let him denounce it because it is an electoral crime”, said the President in his press conference at the National Palace.

President López Obrador is in isolation at his home in the National Palace after testing positive for Covid-19, becoming the latest of several world leaders and one of more than 1.7 million Mexicans who have contracted the infectious disease.
He said on Twitter Sunday night that he had mild symptoms but was already receiving medical treatment.
“As always, I’m optimistic. We will all move forward,” López Obrador wrote, adding that Interior Minister Olga Sánchez would take his place at his morning news conferences.
