The Clara Building was built in 1884 to house the R.B. Viles Dry Goods store and was named in honor of his young daughter Clara. Over the years, until just recently, the store had been continually used as a clothing and dry goods store. Delarue’s Department Store (where my mother took me shopping before school started each year); Alyce’s Closet (which many of us remember fondly; and the Village Boutique has all occupied this building.

Taylor. 13 political parties participated in the 1997 presidential election. Taylor won all of them at once with 75.33% (468,443 votes). There was no second round or run-off.
This was indeed a landslide victory. There were also 13 counties at that time but Taylor still could not win 12 out of 13.
