Local residents in Clane have raised almost €17,000, as of Wednesday, to pay for a planned legal challenge against what they say is proposed massive over-development of the town, resulting from a series of planning decisions made by An Bord Pleanála.
The group Sustainable Clane, made up of residents and Clane Community Council members, said: “In a series of decisions on Strategic Housing Developments (SHD), An Bord Pleanála has granted 841 extra residential units on top of previous permissions and existing housing development ongoing since about 2016.

An inspirational lady and a real leader. That was just one of the many descriptions of the late Evelyn McKee, founding member of the Little Way Cancer Support Service, who passed away on March 25 last.
The words from Noel Shannon, former Kfm radio presenter, sum up her character.
Noel recalled working with her in promoting the Robertstown Canal Hotel and the annual fundraising Valentine Balls in the late 2000’s.

The town of Clane needs a park, an online public meeting heard this week.
Clane Community Council member, Des Drumm, said some areas of Clane have become dangerous for walking.
Speaking at the agm of the town’s volunteer community council on January 25, he said Clane currently lacks something like a park.
Mr Drumm said it at least needs a safe circular route around the town away from houses and roads.
His comments came in the lights of discussions on walking in the town and proposed new housing developments, in particular the forthcoming Strategic Housing Development decisions by Bord Pleanala.
