As of Monday, about 7,200 Oregonians received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, state officials said Tuesday. These vaccinations represented the first pivotal steps toward building a critical mass of state residents who are immunized against the virus, which is how we are finally going to stop its spread, said Pat Allen, director of the Oregon Health Authority, told reporters Tuesday.
Authorities are prioritizing vaccines for frontline health care workers who are exposed to the virus on the job. So far, almost 4,500 of them have received a first dose.
Oregon started distributing first doses of vaccine to residents of long-term care facilities this week, said Gov. Kate Brown.
