Concerns as pingdemic leads to staff shortages | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

PUBS in the area are growing increasingly worried about the pingdemic affecting their businesses. Venues across Dorset have been struggling in the wake of July 19 s Freedom Day as more and more people are having to self isolate as a result of coming into contact with someone with Covid-19 - an issue which has been dubbed the pingdemic . Many pubs and restaurants have suffered from a lack of staff recently and some have even had to close for short periods due to the lack of people on the books, with the prevalence of self isolating only exasperating this problem. The Pymore Inn, in Pymore, has had three members of staff pinged by the NHS app in recent weeks.

Venue owners support motion to create Minister of Hospitality | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

WEST Dorset pub and restaurant owners have thrown their weight behind a campaign for the hospitality industry to have representation in Parliament. More than 200,000 people across the country have signed the petition to create a Minister of Hospitality. It comes at a time when the sector is struggling due to the third national lockdown. Due to the amount of signatures amassed, the motion was discussed in Parliament earlier this week. The debate saw MPs vote in support of the motion to create a dedicated Minister of Hospitality, although this is only the first step and there will have to be further debate.

Pub owners are disappointed Dorset will remain in Tier 2 | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

They are now calling on the council to provide grants to keep them afloat. The government yesterday announced that Dorset would remain in the second highest tier of coronavirus restrictions which prohibits households from mixing indoors and requires pub goers to order a substantial meal with any alcoholic beverage. The announcement has been a disappointment to many in the hospitality industry who were hoping the county would be moved to Tier 1 which would allow up to six people from different households to mix indoors and boost sales in the run-up to Christmas which is usually the busiest time for the sector.

West Dorset pubs expect to continue tough times in Tier 2 | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

LOCAL pub owners were not holding out hope ahead of today s announcement on whether Dorset will remain in Tier 2. The government was set to announce the new tier allocations today and with an R rate of 43.9 cases per 100,000, many are arguing for Dorset to be moved down into Tier 1. West Dorset MP Chris Loder made a passionate case in Parliament for the county to be moved to Tier 1, arguing that Covid cases in Dorset have considerably reduced . The review of England s Tier 1, 2 and 3 areas comes as the government faces pressure over Christmas rules. Unlike Tier 2, Tier 1 allows indoor and outdoor mixing between different households and it would allow pubs to serve alcohol without customers needing to order food.
