A GWENT Police officer has told of a difficult few months during which he has been unable to see his family after he was bitten by a man. Alex Godfrey, aged 34, of Clare Street in Cardiff, was sentenced at Newport Crown Court on Thursday April 22, for biting custody officer Robert Holbrook on October 31 in Monmouth last year. Godfrey, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the incident, was seen knocking on doors in the town and being a general nuisance in the early hours of the morning. Thomas Stanway, prosecuting, told the court how it took several officers to restrain Godfrey, who also had to wear a spit proof head cover during the ordeal.

Jealous Jonathan Wignall, 54, was today jailed for three years for plaguing ITV host Ruth Dodsworth including badgering her at her TV studio. Ruth, 46, is from Worthing and is a regular ITV weather presenter on regional news in London – and has appeared on This Morning. But her obsessive husband set an alarm to check her nightly forecasts, rang her dozens of times a day demanding to know where she was and who she was with.
Cardiff Crown Court heard how defendant was high on drink and drugs when he the destroyed windows before starting the fire between February 8 and 9. Miss Wynn Morgan said the offences happened after McGuire had an argument with a girlfriend he was in an “on-off relationship” with. She told how officers put out the fire after being called to the scene. The 36-year-old defendant then smeared faeces inside a Gwent Police van following his arrest. The court was told how he had also caused criminal damage to his brother’s car the previous day. McGuire, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to arson reckless as to whether life was endangered and criminal damage.
