SCHOOLS across Flintshire are set to benefit from an additional repair and maintenance schools grant. The Welsh Government has provided Flintshire Council with an additional schools capital repair and maintenance grant of £2.526,501 for the 2021/22 financial year. Cllr Billy Mullin, Flintshire Council’s cabinet member for corporate management and assets, said: “This grant is in addition to the council’s own annual capital repair and maintenance programme which is in the region of £1.8m a year. It covers identified priorities like school toilet refurbishment schemes, roofs and boilers which are essential to keeping schools warm and dry and also support pupils’ wellbeing. This additional investment allows us to undertake more projects this year, which I am sure will be welcomed by our schools.”
TRAVELLERS that set up camp at a Flintshire school have been moved on , police confirm. A number of caravans were reported to have arrived at the Alun School in Mold on Sunday evening, next to Mold Leisure Centre, with several remaining at the site on Monday afternoon. Remote learning was put in place for pupils. The joint statement, shared on social media, read: “Due to unauthorised visitors on the Mold Alun and Ysgol Maes Garmon shared campus, both schools will be closed to pupils and staff on Tuesday 4 May. Remote learning will be in place and pupils should follow their usual timetable.

OUR kids deserve to be safe when they go to school, concerned parents have said. A petition has been launched for action to be taken over safety issues outside of Ysgol Bryn Deva in Connah’s Quay. Parents say this has been an ‘issue for many years’ as safety of children is not being put first. The petition is calling for safety measures such as double yellow lines and a zebra crossing to allow children to cross safely. Alice Blackwell told the Leader: “We are all getting annoyed. Cars are parking on the path and it’s just too dangerous.
