Claire Delight (Wilken) Doering, a retired executive assistant to the Vice President of Research at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, died April 6, at age 90, after a battle with colon cancer.
Although she was born in 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, she spent much of her early life in Aruba where her father took a job in 1929 helping build a Standard Oil refinery.
“She was always proud of the distinction of having grown up in Aruba and having been the first baby in the Standard Oil colony there,” her obituary states.
