Historic Lovettsville farm placed in conservation easement

Standing since the 18th century, Lovettsville’s historic, 75-acre Hidden Covey Farm recently entered a permanent conservation easement with the help of the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, NVCT officials announced last week. Farm owner Claire Abraham, whose family inhabits the property alongside the Wisch family, received funding for the easement through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation. “My family has farmed in Loudoun in some capacity for 200 years,” she said in a prepared statement. “The decision to put Hidden Covey Farm in an easement is an investment in my children and grandchildren.” Fifty acres of prime farmland, a quarter mile of stream and grasslands “with potential to provide habitat for a rare butterfly” are among the environmentally rich features the property boasts, according to NVCT officials.
