and the probe to look for possible gaps they could fill. the republican-led intelligence committee was the only house panel to investigate the meddling charges. its investigation is now closed saying they found no evidence of collusion. president trump has been campaigning furiously in the final weeks of the election season with four stops scheduled in the next six days including tonight in houston, texas. the president is hammering the kavanaugh controversy and immigration with a tweet calling on congress to change the immigration laws. quote, now even though congress will not return until after the elections. the president claims congress is still working hard behind the scenes, making this promise on saturday in nevada. we are going to be putting in and are studying very deeply right now round-the-clock a major tax cut for middle income
joining us, senior writer at roll call nils. congratulations to you. let s talk through this tax cut thing. sort of a strange promise given that congress is not in session at all. what has the reaction been? the reaction has been lukewarm at best. i think that the folks who are republicans at the ways and means committee and congressional leadership were probably a little surprised by the president s comments over the weekend when he was in nevada. i think that the big question is going to be whether or not we even get that one-page document from the treasury department or something like that. there s no way, obviously, that there s going to be an actual legislative push before election day. but this may have been something that trump was doing, i would guess, because he was looking at the markets and was trying to
