Life on the West Florida frontier was primitive. Most people had homes of log cabins, often on blocks to capture the breeze (important before the age of air conditioning!). The interiors were sparse and unadorned; simple beds, tables and chairs were present, and there would be numerous pegs on the walls to hang clothes and other items that needed to be kept off the floor. Bags of seed, dried fruit, corn shucks packed with sausage, and strings of red pepper might be found suspended from the joists.
Outbuildings included a barn, detached kitchen, smoke house, stable, outhouse, and chicken coops. A milk cow would be present, along with goats, mules, horses, chickens, dogs, ducks, guineas and perhaps even a peacock or peahen. Vigil held for man fatally shot by state trooper in West Haven; family seeks charges

Friends and family gathered in West Haven Friday evening to remember a man shot and killed by state police one year ago.
Police blocked off a section of the street on Campbell Avenue as dozens gathered to remember 19-year-old Mubarak Soulemane who was fatally shot by Connecticut trooper Brian North on Jan. 15, 2020.North was following Soulemane after he reportedly stole a car at knifepoint in Norwalk. This led state police on a chase down I-95 to West Haven, where Soulemane was shot seven times.

Commissioner Joshua Price objected because Poe wasn’t present; wasn’t allowed to give his side, and no documented list of grievances was presented. Price said he supported following customary human resource and legal procedures.
I caught only a part of the meeting on YouTube and the sound quality was poor, so many details are lacking. The meeting was held at the Capitol in the old Supreme Court chamber because county office buildings are closed to the public during the pandemic.
