Community members renew calls for Mark Shull s resignation January 21 2021
Path for healing exists, but not if commissioner remains a represenative of Clackamas County, say Muslim and LGBTQ residents
A coalition of community members representing metro-area Muslim residents and other marginalized groups held a press conference Thursday afternoon to renew calls for Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull to resign.
Shull who recently came under scrutiny for racist, transphobic, anti-immigrant and Islamophobic statements made on his personal Facebook page has doubled down on some of his comments in recent days. During a Board of County Commissioners meeting Thursday, Jan. 21, Shull incorrectly stated that Muslim people believe in Sharia Law over the U.S. Constitution. His comments followed nearly 45 minutes of public testimony in which community members unleashed scathing calls for his resignation.

Estacada site now being examined for permanent shelter for homeless people, after Econo Lodge s long list of repairs revealed
Clackamas County is ending its effort to purchase the Econo Lodge Motel on McLoughlin Boulevard as part of a regional project to turn metro-area motels into shelters for homeless individuals. Instead, the county will pivot to begin a due-dilligence process on purchasing a motel located in Estacada.
Last month, the Clackamas Board of County Commissioners directed county staff with the health, housing and human services (H3S) division to begin the due diligence process of vetting the property before potentially purchasing. A heated discussion between board members preceded their Dec. 15 vote in which Commissioners Paul Savas and Martha Schrader both abstained for separate reasons.
DA declined to charge Mark Shull for pulling gun on wife January 14 2021
Records illustrate a scene from December 2010 when future county commissioner was allegedly violent towards then-wife and stepson.
Allegations of domestic violence against Mark Shull in December 2010 were rejected by Clackamas County prosecutors due to a lack of evidence, newly obtained records show.
The records provided through a request to the Clackamas County District Attorney s Office illustrate allegations of a domestic dispute between Shull and his then-wife Galina Anufrieva on Dec. 16, 2010 in the presence of Aufrieva s 14-year-old son.
Shull who was elected to the Clackamas Board of County Commissioners in November 2020 has recently come under fire for racist, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant and transphobic statements made public from his personal Facebook page. Shull was censured by his fellow board members in a Thursday, Jan. 14 resolution calling on him to resign.
