Mike Trout's season ended Sunday because of a wrist injury that limited him to one game after July 3. The Los Angeles Angels moved the three-time AL MVP to the 60-day injured list because their series finale against the Minnesota Twins. Trout, a 32-year-old center fielder, fractured the hamate bone in his left wrist on July 3 while fouling a pitch off against San Diego's Nick Martinez, returned Aug. 22 and went 1 for 4 against Cincinnati.
Ryan Jeffers homered, tripled and drove in three runs to back a strong outing by Joe Ryan on Sunday as the Minnesota Twins pulled away late for a 9-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. After a 50-minute rain delay, Jeffers and Max Kepler each hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to help the Twins expand a one-run lead. Jorge Polanco also went deep, Matt Wallner reached base four times and scored twice, and Trevor Larnach had two RBIs as Minnesota posted its first victory since clinching the AL Central title by beating the Angels on Friday night.
Bryce Harper's first long drive of the day came on his commute to the ballpark, when he tuned into the local sports radio station and heard a caller pump up the streaking Phillies. Alec Bohm followed an intentional walk to Harper with a go-ahead three-run homer, Harper moved within one of 300 homers and Philadelphia won its fifth consecutive game, 12-7 over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night. “We come in here and play with the Phillies across our chest,” Harper said.
