parallel investigations. obviously this man was found hanging from a tree in some woods in property behind the residence where he was living and because of the circumstance this is in southern mississippi near the louisiana border the fbi was called in by local authorities. they found him this morning about 10:00 this morning. they were looking for him because he had been missing since early this month. the fbi is in charge of checking to see if there s any federal violation, civil rights violation, you know. obviously the circumstances are very suspicious hanging from a tree and so on. they haven t ruled out that it s possibly a suicide but it is suspicious and it is something that the fbi s looking into. at this point, all they know is that it is a suspicious death. they are looking into it. both on the local authorities side and on the fbi side. evan perez, we will continue to update you with news from that horrific story as it comes in. in other national news today, his photogr
on the fire in the way they released the justice department report. i want your reaction. you are the president of the national urban league. so i think that s just another indication of people in ferguson being in denial. the attorney general and the justice department have a sworn oath to uphold the law and the constitution. under the 94 crime bill they have a right and obligation to investigate where there s a suggestion of a pattern and practice of constitutional and civil rights violation. they did their job. when they do their job, they are not pouring kerosene on anything. it s the denial it s the on few skags, the obstinance of the ferguson police to make this difficult. the right thing to do is indicate publically and very
your beat. thank you. and i m joined now by the associate director council at the naacp legal defense and educational fund to talk about the broader issue of all of this. first of all, the justice department, as pete say, has released the full report the findings that show first of all that darren wilson should not be charged with a civil rights violation, but secondly, the justice department has released this report saying or is going to at 3:00 this afternoon saying there has been systematic discrimination by the ferguson police. is that the more important issue now? fixing this police force. well yes. this is real vindication for all of those who have protested over the past several months following the killing of michael brown. civil rights leaders, the residents of ferguson protesters from across the country and around the world. this is an absolute validation of their outrage. and this is the right finding in this case. we see from what we ve learned
information but it s a terrible way in order to get to the truth of the matter by cross-examining people, by pressing people, by determining exactly what happened and that s what s missing here but you better believe in the civil case a lot of that info will come out. mel, i ll ask you the toughest question. when all is said and done, will anything change? will the brown win their civil suit? will the federal investigation uncover civil rights violations? well, this is my prediction having read everything that s come out and number one i don t think that there will be a federal suit brought in this for civil rights violation. number two, i doubt this will go to trial. i think you ll see a settlement happen on the civil side. number three, i do think that in this particular case you would have never proven this beyond a reasonable doubt and that based on what was presented the grand
