The civil rights movement was the first direct mass action protest. My dad was a boycott organizer, my dad, the late Judge Thomas Gray and his younger brother, youngest brother Fred Gray, who is a renowned civil rights lawyer. He represented Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King and a young teenage girl named Claudette Colvin, who was also involved in the movement. Colvin was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus nine months before Rosa Parks did the same thing.
