UNDP supports Iraqi Government to strengthen internal security

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Iraq delivered a strategic planning training course to senior officers and specialists to strengthen MoI institutional capacities to implement its multiyear strategic plan (2019 -2023).
The Strategic Plan is aimed at strengthening internal security, maintain public order, develop law enforcement and anti-corruption mechanisms, improve, and develop high-quality security services for citizens, and build a professional security institution.

TRC performed strongly in 2020 despite pandemic chief
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) received 6,126 complaints during 2020, of which 5,706 were successfully addressed, TRC Chairman Ghazi Al Joboor said.
The response rate was 93 per cent, as there was a noticeable increase in the number of complaints during 2020 compared to 2019, which recorded 4,582 complaints, he said.
According to Joboor, the rise in complaints “was logical due to the circumstances of the pandemic and the shift to remote working and learning, which resulted in an increased number of Internet users, subscribers, and the use of telecommunications in general, in addition to postal services.
“The total amount that has been provided to the Kingdom’s treasury since the establishment of the TRC to date reached JD1.948 billion, of which JD664 million have been provided to the Treasury since 2015,” Joboor said during a press conference held on Tuesday.

Most factories in Karachi and across Sindh lack basic safety equipment and protocols. In many set-ups, there are no trained personnel to deal with emergency situations. Over the years this has resulted in several lethal accidents in industrial plants.
More often than not, it is an insufficient number of emergency exits and construction of industrial buildings contrary to the approved layout that worsens the impact of such incidents. Factory owners, the provincial labour department, the Sindh Building Control Authority and the federal Civil Defence Directorate have important responsibilities regarding factory workers’ safety in industrial units, which are not being fulfilled.
