Mi Hazánk to Protest Against Excessive Closures on March 15th

The ‘Mi Hazánk’ movement announced that they would organize a protest against “excessive closures” on March 15th. However, the decision received criticism arguing that the demonstration is clearly not appropriate when the epidemiological situation is continuously deteriorating. “We the yoke of slavery/No more shall wear”- the motto of Mi Hazánk’s protest was taken from one of the most popular Hungarian poems, Sándor Petőfi’s National Song, and therefore is a reference to the 1848 revolution which started on March 15th, though likening the situation of Hungarians fighting for their rights in the Habsburg Empire to closures introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, is undoubtedly far-fetched.

Former Jobbik MP Bencsik s New Party to Run on Own Ticket in 2022 Election

The new party Civic Answer (Polgári Válasz), founded by Janos Bencsik, a former Jobbik lawmaker, will run its own national list and field individual candidates in every electoral district in the general election next spring. “Recent developments [in Hungarian politics] have made it clear that Christian conservative values are not represented in politics at all,” Bencsik, who was the leader of Jobbik’s Budapest chapter, said in a statement. Casinos Exemption from Lockdown Restrictions Angers Many

While the catering and entertainment industries struggle to avoid bankruptcy, Hungary’s casinos remain open. Many are frustrated with current legislation, and want to know why these large businesses are exempt from the nation-wide shutdown. In a video posted to Facebook, independent MP János Bencsik placed a closed sign on the door of the Las Vegas Casino in Budapest. With his fellow activists he stood in front of the building, discouraging would-be guests from entering. Bencsik, a former right-wing Jobbik politician and founder of the conservative Polgári Válasz (Civic Answer) movement, believes it to be a double standard that casinos can operate while other businesses remain shut down, and individuals cannot gather in groups.

Uproar Follows EC s Rejection of Minority Safepack Initiative

Despite more than one million signatures collected across Europe, the European Parliament’s and the Bundestag’s backing of the Minority SafePack citizens’ initiative urging EU protection for indigenous national minorities in the bloc, the European Commission eventually rejected it.  According to the EC’s Friday statement, a wide range of measures had been taken to address the issues outlined in the initiative since it was launched in 2013. “While no further legal acts are proposed, the full implementation of legislation and policies already in place provides a powerful arsenal to support the Initiative’s goals,” reads the statement. Fact Minority SafePack initiative, launched by Romania’s ethnic Hungarian RMDSZ party and coordinated by the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), contains a comprehensive set of measures to protect and promote the cultural and linguistic diversity of autochthonous national minorities in a sustainable way. It is not to be conf

Momentum: Pay People HUF 100,000 for Getting Vaccinated According to Momentum, life can only go back to normal if people are vaccinated. Besides blaming the government’s communication and arguing that it spends more on propaganda than what this project would need, party leader András Fekete-Győr added that vaccination is the only solution not only for saving lives, but also for the economic crisis, for the revival of halted sectors, and for the prevention of further job loss. In addition, former Jobbik MP, now independent lawmaker János Bencsik’s Civic Answer (Polgári Válasz) party wants to provide exemptions from certain restrictions for those vaccinated.
