sean berry filed this report from the city of rockhampton. welcome to rockhampton, a city under water. water covers the city. the riverside suburb of depot hill has been swallowed by the river. it comes up to here. reporter: chris all-wood lived there during the 91 flood. i feel sorry for the people now. reporter: it s not easy. many call this evacuation center home. the police came along about 3:00 and said you re out of here by 5:00. that s it, period. reporter: others are doing what they can to keep the river at bay. boarding up, silicone up, make sure no water gets inside. reporter: emergency services are angry people are still entering floodwaters. they wasted four hours searching for a man who was swimming. the suburbs slowly succumb to the ricing water but this is
reporter: tonight, beaumont and port arthur, texas under water. residents waking up to this. major freeway interstate i-10 now completely underwater. cars completely submerged. in some places, catastrophic flood waters reaching rooftops. i m on my roof right now. reporter: families in agony, waving white towels signaling for help. in the last 24 hours, the storm tragically claiming two lives here in beaumont, 41-year-old colette sulcer died. her 3-year-old daughter clinging to her as both were swept away. her little girl, miraculously, in stable condition tonight. in nearby port arthur, workers racing to evacuate this flooded nursing home. more than 70 elderly patients in bedrooms and hallways. workers gathering desperately needed medical supplies and oxygen tanks. outside, local residents with their own boats taking them to safety. a military chopper later landing on the highway to air lift some out. city officials pleading for volunteers to come with boats to help with rescues,
