Notorious landlord s neglect leaves woman with no heat, no water during frigid cold

Notorious landlord’s neglect leaves woman with no heat, no water during frigid cold Updated Feb 19, 2021; Posted Feb 19, 2021 LaToya Smith, 46, holds a couple cans of food and a Upstate hospital folder in her bedroom. The kitchen stove and a space heater in this room are the only source of heat. The furnace has been out in her Seymour Street apartment for at least a week. Dennis Nett | dnett@syracuse.com Facebook Share Syracuse, N.Y. The stove is pretty much the only thing that works in LaToya Smith’s home on Seymour Street. She’s using it to heat her apartment, since the furnace broke more than a week ago and the landlord hasn’t fixed it. All the gas burners are cranked to “high” and the oven is running at 450 degrees with the door open. Still, it’s near freezing in most of the house.
