candidate since ann richards. what are her chances of winning? a lot of texas democrats see some hope here, in that even if she doesn t win it s still early. we ll see. the idea is that she s helping to shake the trees for democrats in texas, trying to get new people motivated and registered and maybe even helping candidates down ballot, city races, county judge races, the idea that this will set the party up for even more wins. it s in those coming cycles that demographers really believe the state will start turning purple, if not blue. she has some structural disadvantages but in the long term this could help the party revive itself. i definitely want to get to this before i let you go. sure. george p. bush, son of former governor jeb bush, does he have
schools on year-round calendar. apathy? to three. a little bit of apathy, a lot of naysaying, particularly from some sources. fair enough. fair enough. michael steele, let me ask you this, there was one republican in the race. what happened to all the republicans? that s why there s apathy. 15 years ago, 15 years ago, republicans started making inroads in some of these big city races, richard riordan and rudy giuliani elected the same year and republicans making active then disappeared. yesterday, reince priebus showed up in brooklyn. but the republicans loss of any connectivity to the inner city says lot, doesn t it? that is exactly right. i believe, you look at the situation in los angeles, particularly given the new rules on elections, where it s supposedly non-partisan and the top two vote getters. that means republicans, at least for the short term they have an opportunity.
