SSLGC breaks ground on water expansion project

Photo courtesy Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen (Nixon) A new multi-million-dollar water treatment plant, which secures the future water needs for this area, is on its way up in Nixon. City leaders from the City of Seguin and the City of Schertz recently joined the Schertz-Seguin Local Government Corporation (SSLGC) Board of Directors and staff for the groundbreaking of its $33 million dollar Guadalupe Project located in Nixon. The project consists of a new 6.0 MGD water treatment plant, wellfield (including six wells five drilled in the Carrizo Aquifer, one drilled in the Wilcox Aquifer), wellfield access roads, and pipelines to carry water from each well to the new water treatment plant.

(Seguin Fire Department) SEGUIN, Texas – The City of Seguin announced funeral services for firefighter Roger Dean, who died after contracting COVID-19. Dean, 31, died at a Houston-area hospital after what Seguin Fire Chief Dale Skinner called a “lengthy, hard-fought battle” with COVID-19. The viewing and visitation both open to the public will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 30 at Tres Hewell Mortuary, located at 165 Tor Drive. The memorial service honoring Dean will be held at 11 a.m. on May 1 at the Seguin High School Performing Arts Center, at 1315 E. Cedar Street.

COVID-19 Claims Life of Seguin Firefighter

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today Apr 23, 2021 1:16 PM (Seguin) The City of Seguin is mourning the loss of a Seguin Fire Department member as a result of complications from COVID-19. “It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of one of our own, Firefighter/Paramedic Roger Dean, who passed away Friday, April 23at a Houston hospital following a lengthy, hard-fought battle with COVID-19,” said Seguin Fire Chief Dale Skinner. “Please keep his wife, baby girl, their family and our department in your thoughts and prayers,during this difficult time” he said. City officials say Roger began his career with the Seguin Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic on July 30, 2018 and was promoted to Field Training Officer in July 2019.

City of Seguin defends welcoming of circus to town

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today Apr 19, 2021 5:55 AM (Seguin) The city of Seguin is responding to an animal rights group which accuses the city of welcoming the Carden International Circus to town despite its current rules in its books. In a letter submitted to Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen and members of the Seguin City Council, Rachel Mathews, the foundation director of PETA’s captive animal law enforcement, states that “the city has no business greenlighting Carden’s exploitative camel, elephant, and tiger acts, which are clearly prohibited by its own law. PETA is calling on officials to do their jobs and is encouraging everyone to avoid this circus.”
