Employee Handbooks (and Policies): Make Sure that the Policies and Disclaimer Accomplish their Purpose | Dorsey & Whitney LLP

On February 3, 2021, in Hall v. City of Plainview, A19-0606, the Minnesota Supreme Court gave something to employees and employers alike when it addressed the issue of whether a handbook policy can create a unilateral contract (as to that provision), and what impact, if any, a general disclaimer has in negating the existence of a contract based on a specific policy. To reach its holding, the Court travelled back in time to revisit its seminal case, Pine River State Bank vs. Mettille, and its progeny to outline the circumstances under which a handbook policy may rise to the level of a contract. Those who want to discard of their Christmas trees can do so in the green containers located at 200 N. Columbia or in one of the yellow Loan-A-Tubs at the corners of 16th and Holiday, 2nd and Columbia, 18th and Galveston and Garland and Kermit Streets. The tubs will be removed on Jan. 8 but residents who have a tree to dispose of after that date can still do so by dropping it in the green containers or at the Landfill. 1 injured, 1 arrested after Plainview shooting By KCBD Staff | December 28, 2020 at 11:08 AM CST - Updated December 28 at 11:59 AM LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries Monday morning after their vehicle was hit by gunfire in Plainview. One person is in custody. Plainview police responded to the 1300 block of 22nd Street after someone called and told dispatchers their vehicle was hit by gunfire. The victim also suffered injuries to the right upper arm by glass, not from gunfire, according to the City of Plainview. Officers also found the alleged shooter near a home in the 1600 block of West 22nd Street. That person was arrested.

Administration offices including Unger Memorial Library, the Plainivew/Hale County Health Department and the Solid Waste Department will be closed.
