Okolona hoping to provide high-speed internet in the future

OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) - The coronavirus pandemic has made high-speed internet a necessity since many people are learning and working from home.
A longtime law in Mississippi does not allow cities to provide internet, only utilities like electricity, water and sewage. Right now, the City of Okolona, we cannot go in the internet business, Okolona Mayor Sherman Carouthers said.
But that doesn’t mean all hope is lost, Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley said. A new plan is needed.
